In the early 1990's my dear friend, Tom Bateham, made up his mind that in addition to the Malamutes I shared my home with, I needed an Aussie. He was persistent and ultimately I agreed to take a cute little blue bitch, who I named "Tag" (later Ch. Bateham's Teacher's Pet). Tag was to become my travel companion and possibly an obedience competitor. I was adamant that I was not going to show Aussies or breed Aussies and insisted that Tag would be spayed at 6 months. Well, Tom convinced me to show her "just once" and see. She took her first 5 point major from the 6-9 class, I was hooked, and the rest is history!

Tag went on to become the foundation of Kantera Australian Shepherds. Her first litter produced AKC/ASCA Ch. Kantera's Heat of the Night and AKC/ASCA Ch. Kantera's Head of the Class. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren have continued what she started as loyal and loving companions, successful obedience and agility competitors, and champions in the conformation ring.

At Kantera, we pursue a breeding program which produces consistency in type, movement and temperament in keeping with the breed standards of the American Kennel Club and Australian Shepherd Club of America.
